Choir Membership

Becoming a Member of the Chicago Boy Choir:

Any fourth, fifth, sixth, or seventh grade boy, who resides within the Archdiocese of Chicago, and who attends public or parochial schools, regardless of race or religion or ethnic origin, may apply for membership. Even though no prior musical experience is necessary, he must possess a love for music and the desire to work toward excellence.

In particular, each boy must:

1. Have a good musical ear and the ability to reproduce a played melody.

2. Provide a letter of recommendation from his school principal stating that his reading comprehension is productively successful at grade level/enrichment activities and that there are no serious behavioral problems.

It is equally important that parents understand their role in the choir program. Willingness to support and assist the choir in various projects is vital to the success of the boychoir program.

To arrange and audition, please contact the Artistic Director, James Brian Smith, at (773) 395-6020.

Financial Matters:

To cover expenses such as the chorister's choir robe, music, folders, costs associated with the use of the practice facility, and the instruction by our professional staff, each boy is charged $150.00 tuition per semester. Scholarships are available for those families who cannot cover the total cost.
